Mangalyam Thanthunanena - My Journey As A Bride: Wedding Makeup

Bridal makeup is something that is treated as very high profile and brides really invest well in the department. I had huge plans for my bridal makeup and had a few makeup artists filtered out back then. But when things got escalated and the planning begun I was not really ready to invest much for makeup - not because I didn't think it's worth it but because (a) the MUAs I looked up were from Chennai (as the wedding was initially planned to happen here and later moved to Madurai), I wasn't thinking about making them to travel at all (b) the venue was a temple and I was well aware how sweaty it would turn out (c) we didn't have a wedding hall for after party or reception. So I took a leap and decided to do my wedding makeup on my own!😊💓
Read on to know what products I used and how it turned out!😃

So How I Wanted My Makeup To Be?

Although I knew a lot about makeup I didn't really have much hands-on with anything except applying an eyeliner, kajal, single shadow & lipstick which was pretty much what I did🙈
I wanted a signature Indian Bridal Makeup Look - golden eyes & red lips! I also wanted glowing skin and completely natural looking makeup or atleast my base makeup blurred to perfection.

How did I put together my own Bridal Makeup Kit?

Little did I know but I put together a complete makeup kit for myself, utilized what I already had and bought just the necessary extra stuff to complete the kit! Nevertheless it was super exciting and fun😄 The makeup stayed on for close to 6 hours although it faded quickly due to the hot and humid atmosphere inside the temple.

Face Makeup

I researched and found out that a makeup primer is very essential for the makeup to adhere to your skin and stay better! I was actually hooked on to primers ever since😉 I bought the Colorbar Blur Perfect Primer (Buy Here, Or Here). It's a silicone based primer and perfectly suited my oily skin. Although I didn't have much pigmentation to camouflage still it was a good chance to pick up a concealer so I picked the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer which is an highlighting concealer too. Then for foundation I picked the one that was a latest launch and very popular by then - L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24h Foundation Golden Sand (Buy Here, Or Here). It's a medium coverage foundation that can be built up for full coverage and gives a flawless semi-matte finish. For highlighter I used the Revlon Skinlights Illuminator in Peach Lights (Buy Here) that I had already. For blush I used my favourite Sleek Blush in Rose Gold (Buy Here). It's a beautiful peach blush with gold undertones that works as a blush & highlighter💗 I wasn't much into contouring back then and honestly I didn't learn much about it either so I totally skipped it. I used my Blue Heaven translucent powder (Buy Here) to set the entire look.

Eye Makeup

I wanted a nice brown and gold shadows to achieve the look I aimed. So I used my Maybelline The Nudes Palette (Buy Here, Or Here) & Maybelline Color Tattoo Bad To Be Bronze. I also carried the Coloressence single eyeshadow in Tuskon Gold with me. For Eyeliner I used my Maybelline Colossal Liner (Buy Here, Or Here) and for the must-have eye makeup, Kajal I used my then favourite Lakme Eyeconic Kajal (Buy Here, Or Here). I bought a new mascara a month before the wedding as old mascaras cause a lot of irritation to the eyes if used beyond it's lifetime. I used my Sleek Makeup Brow Kit (Buy Here) to groom my eyebrows. I also purchased a whole brush set for the wedding :))

Lip Makeup

Ever favourite Maybelline Baby Lips (Buy Here), L'Oreal Paris Color Rich Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose (Buy Here) & Lakme Absolute Matte Lipstick Plum Spell.

I purchased the Freedom Makeup Fixing Spray to seal the makeup completely!😊

How I Did My Makeup?

I first completed my CTM routine and also added a layer of my Lotus 3 in 1 Matt Look Sunscreen for SPF. It's my favourite sunblock till date. Then I went ahead with priming my face and let the primer sit for a few seconds. Once set I concealed some discoloration and dark spots with my lumi touch concealer. Then I mixed my L'Oreal Infallible foundation with my Revlon Skinlights Illuminator and applied it using my RT Miracle makeup sponge to blend it well. Then I added my Sleek Rose Gold blush and blended it well using a fan brush. Then I set the whole makeup with some translucent powder.

For eyes I primed it with some concealer, added a n*ude shade from the nudes palette as an overall lid color and added a matte brown shade to the crease. Then I went ahead and applied the golden color all over my lid. Then I added a layer of my Mybelline color tattoo just to the center portion of my lids to create a halo effect. I topped it off with some Coloressence Tuskon Gold shadow. It's an amazingly pigmented shadow and it just took the whole look quickly to next level💓 Lined my eyes using the Colossal liner, tightlined & applied a thick layer of eyeconic kajal on the waterline. Smudged it a bit to complete the look.

I prepped my lips once I applied my face primer - this helps the lip balm to seep in and give it the time to moisturize my lips. Once I completed the eye makeup I gently removed the excess lip balm using a dry tissue and applied a layer of Lakme Plum Spell. It's a deep red color and as I wanted some drama I topped the center of my lips with some L'Oreal Lincoln Rose and added a bit of my Sleek Blush to the cupid's bow⧓

Spritzed some makeup fixing spray and I was all set for the grand muhurtham!!😍💕
